Why do social networks 'die'?

Like some other social network sites, do you think Facebook will ever 'die'? There are multiple different social networks that were once loved and always used by so many people. For example:

  • MySpace
  • BeBo
  • Piczo
  • Friendster
  • Hi5
MySpace was launched in 2008 and at its peak, had 75.9 million users.
Friendster was launched in 2002 and at its most popular had 115 million users.
The question is, why did these once so popular websites fail?
The answer? Facebook.

Facebook is the worlds most popular social networking website. As Facebook is so popular (800 million active users), people have simply forgotten their log ins or deleted their accounts to other websites. Therefore, they have slowly become inactive.

Although, there is a possibility that Facebook could fade out like all the others. It could definitely be more improved. It does have a lot of aspects to it, for example:
  • Status updates
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Private messaging
  • Groups
  • Profiles
  • Games
  • Birthdays
  • Instant messaging
But what doesn't it have?
  • Skins- to decorate your profile page and make it more 'you'.
  • The ability to talk to the celebrities
Having skins on your Facebook profile would definitely been you could present yourself in a certain way to your friends. It would show more creativity and originality. Currently, everyones Facebook profiles look pretty much exactly the same.
Therefore, people could potentially get bored of Facebook and flock somewhere else.
